Sarah's wandering journey leads her to start trusting God

Sarah (not her real name) has traveled a lot in her young life, and some of her decisions have taken her down difficult paths. At age 17, she left a relative's house to set out on her own. She was pregnant with her first child at the time.

One Donor Gives His Time And Heart Too

Breakthrough Urban Ministries is more than just an organization helping people in need. As many involved at Breakthrough have come to discover, we are like a family - made up of staff, program participants, volunteers, and donors.

One program participant experienced this firsthand several weeks ago. "I was on my way to a job interview when a man stopped me on the street," remembers Rosendo.

“You look familiar,” said the man. He went on to tell Rosendo that he supports Breakthrough and remembered seeing him in a recent e-news feature. The two talked for several minutes, and then the donor asked, “Can I pray for you?”

Stop The Killing

Chicago's violence against youth has been making national news. The violence has been striking close to home for us on the west side of Chicago.

Kadiedrah Marsh, an Orr High School student, was killed outside of a pizza parlor at Chicago Avenue and Waller on March 2nd. On March 7th Ruben Ivy was shot to death outside Crane High School at 2245 W. Jackson. On April 15th, Marcus Greer was killed within a half a block from his home in the Austin neighborhood on the west side. Greer was a student at Community Christian Alternative Academy, a small, tight knit district charter school that has lost two children to violence this year.

Twenty-four Chicago public school children have been killed this academic year. Nobody knows how many more have been badly beaten or shot. Eric, one of our basketball league participants, was recently struck in the head with a brick and is struggling for his life.

Please join us in praying for Eric and for the safety of our children, and please partner with us as we seek to provide alternatives to the street life that is so deadly for our youth.

Breakthrough's Youth and Family programs offer a safe place for kids in our community. We need your help to do more.
